| Description: | Responsibility and Objective: NHPRs 2-person StateImpact team utilizes enterprise and data-driven reporting techniques to examine the impact of legislation on business and the economy in New Hampshire. More specifically, this project tells the human and personal story of individuals and businesses as they are affected by these legislative decisions. NHPR is seeking to tell these meaningful stories through blogging and social media, as well as broadcast reporting. The StateImpact Multiplatform Reporter will be part of a two-person reporting team and will report to the News Director. |
| Duties: | Specific responsibilities and essential functions:
Should provide frequent and noteworthy news coverage following the mission guidelines of StateImpact, taking responsibility to generate important enterprise reporting that sets NHPR apart for its competition
Produce content on-air and online. Reporting should include use of charts, maps and other data visualization as appropriate. The resources of NPRs data visualization team will be available to aid in this regard, and the position will include ongoing training to build these skills.
Provide blog submissions to reach digital audience
Create and curate coverage and news dissemination through social media applications, such as Facebook, Twitter, as an adjunct to on-air coverage
Be available to the News Director to provide off-hour and weekend coverage of important breaking news events, including crucial spot news, storm coverage and other newsworthy events
Maintain current working knowledge of NH issues and news events
Participate in station fundraising and sponsorship activities

| Qualifications: | Experience:
Demonstrated news judgment in recognizing the relative importance of a news story and in developing stories appropriately
Excellent understanding of numbers, data and trends. Ability to analyze information and unearth the story is crucial
Ability to tell complex, in-depth stories for broadcast audience
Understanding of providing suitable voice for blog
Demonstrated ability in taking initiative and developing sources
Demonstrated ability in developing creative approaches to stories
Experience in producing or editing digital media in addition to audio is desirable (video, interactive media, photo editing, blogs, etc.)
Skills:
Demonstrated excellent writing skills, including radio script writing. News writing experience for print or digital a plus
Demonstrated experience in enterprise reporting, that is, reporting that is not generated by press release, but by development of sources
Demonstrated interviewing skills
Demonstrated radio editing and production skills. Editing and/or production skills in other digital or print formats a plus
Technologically versatile and adept, with willingness to expand skills
Ability to find new and interesting angles on stories and determine best means of delivery, including most appropriate media formats to effectively tell the story
Budget management skills
Knowledge of relevant FCC rules and regulations
Basic computer literacy required; blogging skills required; multi-media skills desirable

Passion and intuition for journalism and radio, a keen eye and ear for media trends and audience needs and wants, and a constant awareness of competitors
Education:
B.A. in relevant field or equivalent experience |
